The Bloomsburg Fair, Bloomsburg, Pa. - Thursday, September 26th, 2024
My third trip to the fair this year. Let’s start this post off with a battle.
Kohr’s Orangeade vs. Marcy’s Orangeade
This was tough because they’re both very good.
Marcy’s wins on cost, for sure. The small is $3 at Marcy’s and $4.25 at Kohrs, and they’re about the same size.
Kohr’s wins on presentation; I mean…just look at the cups and the ice portions.
As far as taste, Kohr’s tastes like oranges, whereas Marcy’s has a more subtle orange flavoring and is a lot sweeter. I think this comes down to personal preference.
The Verdict: TIE
Laubachs - e Avenue & 7th St.
Hot Wings - 7/10
These are good. They aren’t hot at all and have more of a buttery type of buffalo sauce.
Lapps Pretzel Co. - c avenue & 12th St.
Pepperoni & Cheese Stuffed Pretzel - 8/10
Ham & Cheese Stuffed Pretzel - 9/10
This was really good, and I’ve had most of the pretzels here. The Ham & Cheese Stuffed Pretzel is the best at this stand.
Lanczynskis - E avenue (Next to the Grand Stand)
Potato Pancake - 10/10. THE KING OF THE POTATO PANCAKES…THE BEST!
Geraldo’s Fresh Baked Pizza - Free Stage Blvd.
Pepperoni Pizza - 6.5/10
It was okay, but nothing special.
Randevoo Corn Fritters - C Avenue & 10th St.
Corn Fritters - 8/10.
Everyone is raving about these this year, and they are selling out. I thought they were pretty good, but you really gotta like corn. The sauce isn’t overly sweet. I think it could use another sweet topping to really set them off.
Danny’s Old Fashioned Root Beer - C Avenue & 10th St.
Root Beer - 10/10. THE KING OF THE ROOT BEER…THE BEST!
It’s just really great, I don’t know what else to say about it. The best root beer I’ve had at the fair and probably the best root beer I’ve had anywhere.
Chicken on a Stick - C Ave. and 9th St.
Chicken on a Stick - 8.5/10
This was great. It had some pieces that had that charcoal burn on them and it really set it off.
Stahl’s Smokehouse - 12th ST. (Gate 3)
Pulled Pork Sandwich with Cheese - 7/10
This was okay, I think Blazing Swine has the best pulled pork. Stahl’s ribs and Armadillo Eggs are phenomenal.
R Bar - 12th St. NE Ext.
Hot Wings - 4/10
Pickle Egg Rolls - 6/10
The wings themselves were cooked okay, but the sauce was sorta gross. It was ketchup-based and just weird. The Pickle Egg Rolls were okay.
Tony’s Cheesesteaks - Machinery Row
Cheesesteak wit, sauce added - 7/10
I thought I’d give this another try, but I stand by my decision from my last visit; it’s okay, but nothing special in my opinion. I’d get it again, but I would personally go with Vince’s over Tonys. A lot of people really like it over Vince’s.
Frank’s Famous Foods - D Avenue and 11th St.
Stuffed Cabbage - 6/10
Wasn’t terrible, but I’ve had better. This place is pretty famous for their $2 fries. I still have to try those.
Glenda & Scott’s Home Made Ice Cream - E Avenue
Peanut Butter Ice Cream - 10/10
Raspberry Ice Cream - 8/10
THE KING OF THE PEANUT BUTTER ICE CREAM…THE BEST!
Vince’s Cheesteaks - E Avenue & 5th St.
Hot Sausage Sandwich - 2/10
Vince’s has great cheesesteaks, but the sausage was dry and just gross. I took two bites and had to throw it straight in the trash, my brother in law did the same thing.
Kudgees - A Avenue & 10th St.
Meatballs - 9/10
These were made with love. They put some provolone right in between the meatballs so it melts in between them. They are pretty big and it was only $7 for 4 of them. These will be a new yearly tradition for sure.
Bassetts - D Avenue & 2nd St.
Beef Vegetable Soup - 7/10
I had this the other day at Bassett’s stand at the other end of the fair and rated it a 6/10. This stand for some odd reason, even thought the soup is the same, is always better. It had more broth and was just better overall.
Edith’s Pot Pie - D Avenue & 4th St.
Vegetable Beef Soup - 8/10
This was good, hearty and piping hot. The Chicken Pot Pie at Edith’s is some of the best I’ve ever had, not as good as my moms, but it might be the best outside of that.
PA Dutchalicious Amish Glazed Donuts - B Avenue & 9th St.
Glazed Donut - 7.5/10
These were good and might be the best at the fair, but nothing compared to Duck Donuts, in my opinion.
