The Bloomsburg Fair, Bloomsburg, Pa. - Sunday, September 22nd, 2024
I was sick all of last week and missed the first two days of the fair. I haven’t missed the fairs opening all of my adult life, so I made up for it today. The Bloomsburg Fair is worth traveling to, even if you are out of state. It is absolutely gigantic, and the food is absolutely amazing.
J&M Concessions - 11th St. (next to gate 5).
Ham & Bean Soup - 9/10
Hi-Ho with Malt - 9/10
They have 3 separate stands serving various items. Everything I’ve had so far from J&M Concessions has been fantastic.
Grotto Pizza - C avenue & 3rd St. (On the Midway)
Cheese Pizza - 8/10
Always a big line here. I think Vesuvious Pizza around the corner is better, but people sure do love Grottos, there’s always a long line.
Karschners concessions - C avenue & 3rd St. (On the Midway)
Prime Rib Sandwich - 8/10
They have an amazing breakfast sandwich. I’m never here early enough for it, but if you get to the fair for breakfast, go here, it’s the best.
Gunzey’s Hot Sausage - C avenue & 3rd St. (On the Midway)
Hot Sausage Sandwich - 10/10. THE KING OF THE HOT SAUSAGE SANDWICHES…THE BEST!
I got this pretty early, so it wasn’t as soft as it usually is and it had a bit of a kick to it. The staff told me that if you grill it, it’ll be a bit spicy. I get the sausage kits that are frozen and let them cook in a crockpot all day and they’re just like getting them at the fair.
If you’re looking for sausage kits to take home, they’re $25, and they should be available tomorrow. Worth every penny, I get multiple every year.
Laubach’s - Next to the Grandstand (Opposite Side of Rides)
Mountain Fries - 8/10
I forgot to grab a picture right away. These are probably my favorite fries with topping, but the best fries in my opinion are Bowman’s fries, right on the midway and also next to the stretch of carnival games.
Brody’s Barbecue - E. Avenue & 5th St.
Pulled Pork Sandwich - 6/10
This wasn’t bad, but it’s definitely not one of my favorites.
Mom’s Secret Recipe - E Avenue & 5th St.
Pierogie Pizza - 1/10
I don’t like to post bad reviews, but this secret recipe should be burned and erased from history. I can’t describe the aftertaste…. It tasted like stagnant water or something, just really weird. Maybe the other food items here are good, but the pierogie pizza was not for me.
Holliday’s Watering Hole - F Avenue.
Arnold Palmer - 2/10
To me, it tasted like the animal barn’s smell. I gave it to my niece and she seemed to like it though, so maybe it’s just me. Give it a try and see what you think, I’d be curious to see what others think.
Belly Busters - b Avenue & 10th St.
Buffalo Wings - 9.5/10
Spicy Bacon Buster - 8.5/10
The burgers here don’t taste frozen and they are huge and reasonably priced.
The wings though…cooked to perfection and a great vinegar based bufallo sauce. Probably some of my favorite wings and I’ve had a lot.
Belly Busters also has a restaurant in Williamsburg. I really don’t get out that way, but if I ever do, I will be stopping by.
Bissingers - b Avenue & 3rd St. (On the Midway)
Vegetable Beef Soup - 9/10
Their soups are made in large kettles and they only serve vegetable beef and ham & bean. Their vegetable beef soup is not salty and is very subtle. I love it.
Marcy’s Orangeade - Carnival Games Row
Orangeade - 9/10
I think it’s slightly better than Kohrs, but I really need to get one of each and compare them at the same time.
Michael’s Waffles & Ice Cream - Next to the Grandstand Ticket Booth
Waffle & Ice Cream Sandwich - 9.5/10
This stand has been here forever and it’s ALWAYS been amazing. I’m not really into sweets, but this hit the spot today.
Horr’s Specialty Hot Dogs - D Avenue & 9th St.
Pickle Dog - 8.5/10
Corndog - 9/10
Looking for something different? The Pickle Dog is wrapped in bacon and they use a giant dill pickle as the bun with spicy brown mustard on top, it’s great.
Signature Sips - D Avenue & 7th St.
Shark Tank 10/10
Cotton Candy Refresher - 9/10
This is a fairly new stand, and the drinks are probably the best at the fair. The Shark Tank has a sour kick, and they put blue and white gummy sharks in it. The Cotton Candy Refresher is also amazing and tastes like lemonade with a cotton candy aftertaste, very unique and very delicious.
Danny’s BBQ - C Avenue & 10th St.
Brisket Pot Pie - 8.5/10
Homemade dough noodles, potatoes, and brisket. Lots of flavor and I get this every year.
Vince’s Cheesteaks - E Avenue & 5th St.
Regular Cheesesteak - 8.5/10
This is a must every year, and there’s always a huge line. This used to be a solid 10/10 prior to covid, but something has changed over the years. It’s still very good, but it’s not quite as good as it once was.
